FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Media Alert: Lev Goldberg’s Historic Lake Ontario Swim – Anticipated Finish Window August 22–26
Toronto, ON – Lev Goldberg is preparing to make history as the first openly transgender athlete to attempt the 51 Kilometer swim across Lake Ontario, raising funds and awareness for trans visibility in sports and supporting LGBT Youthline.
The Swim Window
The swim is scheduled to take place within the window of August 22 to August 26, with the exact start time confirmed only 24–36 hours in advance. This flexibility is required for the safety of the swimmer, as the Lake Ontario safety organization monitors weather, currents, and water conditions before authorizing the start.
The Finish
Once underway, the swim will take 20–26 hours, with the most likely duration being around 23-24 hours.
- Most likely finish location: Marilyn Bell Park, Lakeshore Boulevard (43° 37′ 48″N; 79° 25′ 39″W)
- Alternate finish locations: Leslie Street Split (43° 36′ 46″N; 79° 20′ 39″W)
- Most likely finish time: Evening of the day following the start.
Live Tracking for Real-Time Updates
A GPS tracker will be available once the swim begins, allowing media and supporters to follow Lev’s progress in real time. This will provide the most accurate prediction of the finish location and time.
Media Coverage at the Finish
Media are encouraged to attend the finish to document this historic crossing. Lev will be extremely fatigued after nearly 24 hours in the water, so there will be no formal celebration or extended interviews immediately upon landing. A media availability session will be organized shortly after the swim to allow for in-depth interviews and follow-up coverage.
Important Finish Protocol
For the swim to be officially recognized, no one may physically assist or touch Lev until his ankles have fully exited the water. Media, supporters, and spectators must maintain a respectful distance as Lev completes the final steps onto shore.
A small team of volunteers will be on hand to create a clear path and ensure Lev has space and time to exit safely. We ask for full cooperation in following these guidelines to protect the integrity of the swim and Lev’s safety.
